PETALING JAYA: Two Pakatan Harapan leaders say there is no need for the coalition to withdraw its support for the Barisan Nasional-led governments in Perak and Pahang following BN’s alliance with Perikatan Nasional in the Negeri Sembilan election.
Perak PH chairman Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the political landscape in the state was different from that in Negeri Sembilan.
“As it stands, there is no issue in Perak,” he told FMT, adding that the federal unity government remains intact despite the outcome of the Negeri Sembilan polls over the weekend.
On Saturday, BN won 18 seats in the Negeri Sembilan election while PN secured seven, giving the two coalitions a two-thirds majority and ending PH’s hold on the state government after two terms.
PH won only 11 seats in the 36-seat state assembly.
Mujahid said that while the federal government remained intact, it did not mean that BN, which he had earlier accused of backstabbing PH, would remain loyal.
“They (BN) took advantage of the Malay supremacy narrative that PN was peddling,” he said.
PH and BN formed a unity government in Perak after the 15th general election. The menteri besar’s post was handed to Umno despite PH winning more seats – 24 compared to BN’s nine.
Pahang PH deputy chairman Fadzli Ramly said PH gave way to BN to contest the Tioman and Pelangai by-elections in 2022 and 2023, respectively, and even helped BN in the campaign.
“Pahang PH has stood by BN throughout. We have maintained our solidarity not just at the state government level but also in (other political sectors),” he said.
However, he said he felt slighted that BN had decided to work with PN in the Negeri Sembilan polls.
BN (19 seats) opted to form the Pahang state government with PH (10 seats) after no coalition secured a majority to do so. The other 15 seats are held by PN through PAS.
