PETALING JAYA: Two schools in Puncak Alam were ordered to close today after a fire broke out on a nearby hillside, forcing firefighters to battle the blaze that spread across 4.5ha.
The Kuala Selangor education office directed the closure of SK Puncak Alam 2 and Sekolah Rendah Agama Puncak Alam as a precautionary measure following the incident.
In a statement, the Selangor fire and rescue department said it received a distress call at 10.06am regarding a hill fire near SK Puncak Alam 2, located along Lorong Gugusan Alam 7/1, Bandar Puncak Alam.
Firefighters from the Bestari Jaya, Bukit Jelutong and Saujana Utama stations arrived at the scene at 10.34am and found the hilly area engulfed in flames.
Bestari Jaya firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire on the hillside beside the school’s football field using water sourced from a nearby fire hydrant.
Bukit Jelutong firefighters tackled the blaze on the hillside near residential areas, while the Saujana Utama volunteer fire brigade worked on the section beside the school near housing areas.
The department said firefighters later conducted checks around the affected area to ensure there were no remaining hotspots that could cause the fire to reignite.
No casualties were reported.
