PETALING JAYA: Warisan Supreme Council member Taib Isai has left the party to join Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor’s Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah.
Taib, the Kota Belud Warisan vice-chief, was joined by two Wanite Warisan executive council members, Maini Tapah and Masilah Lidah.
He expressed a loss of confidence in Warisan’s top leadership and claimed that the party had strayed from the aspirations of Sabahans.
He added that Hajiji’s administration had successfully established political stability by uniting various leaders and local parties under the agenda of developing Sabah.
“Hajiji’s inclusive and moderate approach gives me confidence that Sabah’s future is brighter under Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). Based on this confidence, I have decided to join Gagasan Rakyat and fully support Hajiji,” he said in a statement.
Taib also claimed that Gagasan Rakyat and GRS were set to see a wave of rising support with more Warisan leaders and members leaving the party.
Separately, Warisan secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr said the arrival and departure of leaders were common occurrences in politics, and that Taib’s exit had already been anticipated.
He claimed that Taib had been dissatisfied with the Warisan leadership ever since nomination day for the Sabah election in November as he was not fielded as a candidate.
