PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) is set to decide its political future this weekend amid overtures from PAS, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional following the latest turmoil within the opposition coalition.

MIPP president P Punithan said the party’s central committee would meet on Sunday to discuss the way forward after PAS announced that it was cutting ties with Bersatu.

“We will decide our future. MIPP’s central committee will meet and discuss this on Sunday,” he told FMT when asked whether the party would remain with Perikatan Nasional.

PN, the coalition jointly formed by Bersatu and PAS in 2020, also includes Gerakan and MIPP.

Earlier today, Gerakan reaffirmed its commitment to PN saying it would continue to play a constructive role in strengthening the coalition.

Separately, a source close to the matter said Punithan was invited to meet PAS leaders on Thursday to discuss MIPP’s future.

“MIPP was also contacted by Pakatan Harapan for a discussion,” the source said.

FMT has reached out to PH secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for comment.
