PETALING JAYA: The grandson of the late PAS spiritual leader, Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, and Beruas Umno chief Azhar Ahmad have buried the hatchet after the former was allegedly slapped by the Umno leader at an event in Janda Baik, Pahang, last month.

Nik Alif Aiman Abdul Ariffahmi and Azhar said they had apologised to one another for the “misunderstanding” that arose from the incident and agreed to make peace.

“Both parties accepted the apologies with open hearts in the spirit of brotherhood, peace, mutual respect, and for the benefit of all parties involved.

“Both parties held friendly discussions and reached an agreement to resolve this matter amicably without prolonging the dispute,” they said in a joint statement.

The pair reportedly met at a hotel in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, to resolve the matter. Nik Aziz’s son, Nik Abduh, and several others were also at the meeting.

The pair also agreed not to issue further statements or comments on the issue to prevent sullying each other’s good name.

“With this, both parties consider the matter definitively resolved and request that all parties respect their privacy and the decision that has been reached.”

Five days ago, Nik Alif’s family said they were prepared to take legal action against Azhar for purportedly slapping him during a university event in Janda Baik, Pahang, last month.

Nik Alif, who heads the Kelantan Universiti Teknologi Mara student council, claimed the incident occurred on May 20 after a ceramah held at Institut Latihan Memperkasa Ummah in Janda Baik.

The incident had led to a police investigation with statements taken from nine people, including Nik Alif and Azhar.

The case was reportedly being probed under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
