PETALING JAYA: Voter turnout in the Negeri Sembilan state election stood at 18.22% as of 10am, according to the Election Commission.
This is close to the 18.12% turnout recorded at the same hour during the 2023 state election.
The EC said Klawang had the highest voter turnout at 21.5%, followed by Seri Menanti (21.4%) and Chennah (21.1%), while the lowest were Lukut (15.7%), Gemas (16.3%) and Chuah (16.7%).
Polling centres across all 36 state constituencies are scheduled to close at 6pm.
The final turnout in the 2023 Negeri Sembilan polls was 68.35%.
There are 889,490 registered voters on the electoral roll for this election, which was called following the dissolution of the state legislative assembly on June 5.
The snap election was held more than two years before the assembly’s term was due to expire, following a political crisis involving the state’s royal institution and the withdrawal of support for menteri besar Aminuddin Harun by all 14 Umno assemblymen.
The outgoing state government was formed by Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional after the 2023 election, with the coalition controlling 31 of the assembly’s 36 seats.
In this election, PH is contesting all 36 seats on its own.
BN is contesting 25 seats under an electoral pact with PAS-led Perikatan Nasional, which is contesting the remaining 11 seats without any overlap.
Bersatu, although still a PN component party, is separately fielding 24 candidates under its own logo.
