JEMPOL: Barisan Nasional is open to continuing its cooperation with Perikatan Nasional in the coming Melaka state election, said BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He said any decision would depend on discussions among all parties, as the country’s political landscape is constantly evolving.
“We are open to any discussions because politics is very dynamic. This dynamism will mature Malaysian politics,” he told reporters after attending an election event in the Jeram Padang state constituency.
Zahid was responding to a question on whether BN and PN would continue working together in the Melaka state election. The Melaka state assembly’s current term ends in December. BN won 21 of the 28 state assembly seats in the 2021 polls.
BN and PN have established an informal electoral cooperation arrangement for the Negeri Sembilan polls, under which BN is contesting 25 state seats while the remaining 11 seats are being contested by PAS-led PN.
In the recently concluded Johor election, PAS urged its members and supporters to back BN candidates in seats where PN was not contesting.
Zahid, who is also Umno president, dismissed a prediction by Ilham Centre that BN and PN would win the Negeri Sembilan election, saying the forecast was based on a small sample of respondents and could not be verified.
“Let’s see what happens tomorrow once all the votes have been counted,” he said.
