PETALING JAYA: The army today dismissed recirculated claims of rape, molestation and sexual misconduct involving its personnel, describing them as baseless.
In a statement, it said the allegations, which had made the rounds on social media since 2024, were investigated internally.
“We found that the complaints were inconsistent with the facts,” it said in a statement.
It also said that those implicated in the allegations had lodged police reports, while the officers and personnel involved had referred the matter to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission for further action.
The army said the complainant who made the allegations had not lodged any police report over the supposed crimes.
It also described the complainant’s use of social media to air the allegations as unprofessional, saying it appeared intended to tarnish the army’s image.
It added that the anonymous account on which the allegations were published had been deleted from social media.
The army warned against a “trial by social media” and said it would not hesitate to take legal action.
“Every allegation must be submitted through the proper channels so that it can be investigated fairly, transparently and in accordance with the law,” it said.
