PETALING JAYA: Police are searching for three men suspected of assaulting an e-hailing driver in Skudai, Johor, after he allegedly reprimanded them for causing a disturbance while intoxicated.
Iskandar Puteri police chief M Kumarasan said the 56-year-old driver lodged a report at about 11.10am yesterday after a nine-second video of the incident went viral on Facebook.
He said an initial investigation showed that the driver had picked up the trio, believed to be foreigners, at about 9.30pm on Tuesday.
“During the journey, the victim reprimanded the passengers because they were believed to be drunk and making noise inside the vehicle,” he said in a statement.
“Dissatisfied with the reprimand, the suspects allegedly assaulted the victim. The incident reportedly occurred in the Taman Tan Sri Yaakob area in Skudai, Johor.”
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
The video showed an e-hailing driver allegedly being assaulted by a passenger, with the victim seen bleeding from the mouth and suffering injuries near his eye.
