KUALA LUMPUR: DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook has declined to comment on an alleged plot to unseat Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun, stressing that voters will ultimately decide on the matter.
Loke said now that the Negeri Sembilan state assembly had been dissolved, it was time to let the people “assess and make a decision”.
“They have the eyes to see. Let the people judge. So I will not comment on what has happened.
“The people will be the judge of whatever that Bersatu revealed in relation to plans by PAS with other parties,” he told reporters here.
It was reported yesterday that Perikatan Nasional held prior discussions with Umno on efforts to unseat Aminuddin.
The plot was revealed in a 13-page letter purportedly from Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin to PAS leaders.
The letter, dated May 25, said that several rounds of discussions took place among PAS, Bersatu and Umno before the 14 Umno-Barisan Nasional assemblymen withdrew support for Aminuddin’s administration.
It said one of those meetings, at Bersatu’s headquarters on April 24, involved PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and three PAS assemblymen, as well as Bersatu secretary-general Azmin Ali and two Bersatu assemblymen, for the signing of statutory declarations.
Negeri Sembilan Umno held a press conference on April 27 to announce its assemblymen’s withdrawal of support for Aminuddin, citing a loss of confidence in him over his handling of a crisis involving four chieftains’ attempt to remove the state’s Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
When asked if he was disappointed to learn of such a plot, Loke said that in politics, one must always have hope.
“We can’t be disappointed. We need to have hope.”
Regarding PAS’s decision to sever ties with Bersatu last night and whether it benefitted Pakatan Harapan, Loke said: “That is their problem.”
