PETALING JAYA: A senior citizen in Kuching, Sarawak, was fined RM6,000 by the magistrates’ court for threatening to shoot a 38-year-old woman almost three years ago after an argument over fireworks.
Saidi Abang Samsudin, 67, was fined after pleading guilty to a charge of criminal intimidation, Dayak Daily reported.
The court heard that on Dec 23, 2023, Saidi called over the woman, who was officiating the opening of the business next to an eatery, and displayed a firearm before telling her, “I feel like shooting you”.
She reported the matter to the police and Saidi was arrested the same day.
Police also seized a Springfield XDS 9mm pistol, a magazine, five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a firearm licence book.
The authorities later confirmed that the incident was triggered by Saidi’s frustration over fireworks being set off during the business opening while he was having his meal.
Deputy public prosecutor Aidil Akmal Sharidan appeared for the prosecution.
