PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating claims that a statue at a Hindu temple in Bukit Tinggi, Bentong, has been allegedly damaged.
Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said police took note of the incident after photos of the damaged statue were circulated online yesterday.
However, he said no police reports had been lodged over the incident so far.
“Nevertheless, the Bentong police headquarters takes this matter seriously and will conduct a detailed investigation to establish what actually happened, as well as identify the cause and those involved,” he said in a statement.
Zaiham also advised all parties to refrain from spreading unverified information or speculating about the incident and urged anyone with information to contact the Bentong police headquarters.
“All parties are urged to act responsibly and refrain from making statements or sharing content that could create tension, particularly involving racial and religious issues, to preserve public order and social harmony,” he said.
When contacted, the Malaysia Hindu Sangam said it was looking into the incident.
