Nurshazwen Idris, 19, nodded after the charge was read out before magistrate Nurasidah A Rahman.
No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Nurshazwen is charged with killing the baby girl to whom she gave birth at a house at Jalan Setia Mutiara 2/6, Taman Setia Mutiara here at about 10am on July 29.
She was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years as well as a whipping, if the death penalty is not imposed.
The court did not grant bail to Nurshazwen. It set Oct 8 for mention of the case pending chemical, psychological and post-mortem reports.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Nik Noratini Abd Rahman, while Nurshazwen was unrepresented.
Police previously arrested a couple, both aged 19, to assist in the investigation into the murder of a baby girl who was found with stab wounds in the toilet bowl of a rented house.
The student gave birth to another baby girl in hospital after the doctors who conducted an examination found that there was a twin baby still in her womb.
Yesterday, police released the student’s boyfriend to testify as a prosecution witness.
