PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan secured the highest share of popular votes in the Negeri Sembilan despite losing control of the state assembly in the state election yesterday, says a PH leader.
Kelantan PH Wanita chief Dr Hafidzah Mustakim said 40.7% of the popular vote was cast for PH, up from 37.8% in the 2023 state election.
“We lost the state because Malaysia’s electoral system uses the first-past-the-post method,” she said in a Facebook post. “This defeat will make us more humble and push us to work even harder to win the people’s hearts,” she said.
The post was accompanied by a graphic showing the votes received by the parties.
It showed that PH received 232,230 votes (40.7%) across the 36 seats it contested, while Barisan Nasional (BN) received 218,609 votes (38.3%) from the 25 seats it contested and Perikatan Nasional (PN) polled 99,328 votes (17.4%) from the 11 seats it contested.
BN won 18 seats in the state election while its electoral ally PN secured seven, giving the two coalitions a two-thirds majority in the 36-member state assembly. PH won the remaining 11.
