PETALING JAYA: A 67-year-old Chennah voter flew in from Australia to vote in today’s Negeri Sembilan state election, saying the long journey was worth making to ensure her voice was heard.
Lim Qui Fah arrived at the polling centre in SJKC Chun Yin, Jelebu, as early as 7.40am, Berita Harian reported.
Although she now resides in Australia, the Chennah native believes every vote is important in determining the country’s future and stability.
“This is my responsibility to the country, especially to Chennah, today.
“Even though the distance is great, I still wanted to return because Chennah is my hometown, and the future of this country is always close to my heart.
“Travelling thousands of kilometres is no excuse for me to not vote. Every vote is valuable, and I hope voters in Chennah realise that the decision we make today will determine the country’s direction for future generations,” she said.
The Chennah contest is a straight fight between incumbent and DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook, representing Pakatan Harapan, and Siow Kong Choon of Barisan Nasional.
A total of 859,760 registered voters, including 7,391 postal voters, are eligible to cast their ballots in the contest for the 36 state seats.
Polling centres across the state opened at 8am today.
