SHAH ALAM: A lorry driver and a foreign worker claimed trial at the sessions court here today to the unlawful possession of more than 6,400kg of government-subsidised cooking oil.
Moo Teck Lim and V Senthil, an Indian national, were separately charged with unlawfully possessing 4,845kg and 1,598kg of cooking oil, respectively.
Moo allegedly committed the offence at a shop in Bandar Pinggir Subang Seksyen U5 while Senthil was accused of committing the offence at a shop in Jalan Bakti 25/15. Both offences allegedly took place on July 14.
If found guilty under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act, Moo and Senthil face a maximum fine of RM1 million each, up to three years in jail, or both.
Judge Fatimah Zahari granted Moo bail of RM15,000 with one surety while Senthil was allowed bail of RM40,000 with two sureties.
The court ordered them to surrender their passports and report to the domestic trade and cost of living ministry’s office once a month.
It set Aug 17 as case management for Moo and Aug 24 for Senthil.
