PETALING JAYA: A businessman with the “Datuk” title and his assistant were remanded for four days from today to assist in an investigation into documents falsely bearing the royal emblem of the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, in connection with the management of a plot of land in the state.
Berita Harian reported that magistrate Ellyna Othman issued the remand order at the Kuantan magistrates’ court today.
Acting Pahang police chief Azry Akmar Ayob said the businessman and his assistant, both 45 years old, were arrested at a house in Cyberjaya at around 11am yesterday.
He said they were detained after the Pahang palace detected several fake documents bearing the royal emblem and letterhead of the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang’s office on July 8.
“The name and signature of a senior official in the Pahang Royal Council were also used without authorisation on one of the letters.
“The documents came to light after a businessman met the official in question and presented one of the letters for verification.
“The businessman claimed he had obtained the document from a man with the title of ‘Datuk’. The document was purportedly a letter of support for an appointment allegedly issued with the consent of the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang,” he said.
Azry said the senior official referred the matter to Tengku Hassanal and was directed to lodge a police report.
He said police are investigating the motive for issuing the documents and the losses incurred in the case.
The case is being investigated under Sections 420 and 468 of the Penal Code for cheating and forgery.
