JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Barisan Nasional chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi has thanked Johoreans for returning the coalition to power tonight, after the party claimed victory at the state polls.
Onn Hafiz, who is also Johor Umno chief, said BN’s victory in securing 40 of the 56 seats at stake would inspire the party to continue serving the rakyat.
He also thanked the party’s leadership, the other BN component parties and grassroots members for their hard work.
“To the newly elected assembly members, you have a huge responsibility ahead towards the ‘Bangsa Johor’,” he said at a press conference here, at which BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki were also present.
Onn Hafiz urged Johoreans to close ranks and come together to build “the Johor we have always dreamed of”. He said: “Let’s set aside our differences and move forward together.”
A simple majority of 29 seats is needed to form the state government while a two-thirds majority is reached at 39. BN contested all 56 seats.
In the 2022 election, Johor BN won 40 seats, Pakatan Harapan 12, Perikatan Nasional 3 and Muda 1.
