PETALING JAYA: Former Gemas assemblyman Ridzuan Ahmad has resigned from Bersatu and stepped down as the party’s Tampin division chief with immediate effect.
Ridzuan said the decision was made after careful consideration of the current political developments in Negeri Sembilan.
“I believe this step is in line with my principles and position to continue championing the interests of the people, particularly voters in Gemas,” he said in a statement today.
He thanked the Bersatu leadership, division members and supporters who had stood by him throughout his time in the party.
Ridzuan said he would remain active in Negeri Sembilan politics through an independent and principled approach.
“The state’s political landscape requires a more mature and stable approach that prioritises the people’s welfare over party interests,” he said.
He said he would continue to focus on strengthening unity, political stability, and economic development in the state.
Ridzuan’s resignation comes months after he was involved in the political turmoil that preceded the dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan state assembly.
In May, Ridzuan was among five Perikatan Nasional assemblymen who initially signalled their willingness to work with 14 Barisan Nasional representatives to form a new state government after withdrawing support for menteri besar Aminuddin Harun.
He later reversed his position, saying a change in government could undermine political stability and derail the state’s economic recovery.
Negeri Sembilan goes to the polls on Aug 1.
