PETALING JAYA: Johor PKR chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa has accuased Barisan Nasional of failing to assist villagers of Kampung Melayu Raya in Johor who had received eviction notices.
Zaliha said BN should have taken the lead in helping residents and coordinating with the authorities after they were served notices to vacate the land.
“Where were the Kemelah assemblyman and the Umno-BN leadership when the residents of Kampung Melayu Raya were served eviction notices and needed help?” she said in a Facebook post.
“The state government is theirs, the assemblyman is theirs, the councillors are theirs, and the village chief is theirs. They should have been the first to step in and coordinate action with the authorities.”
Zaliha, who is also Sekijang MP, urged the residents to vote for the Pakatan Harapan candidate, Afif Hamid, at the polls tomorrow. Afif is in a three-way contest with BN’s K Raven Kumar and Uzzair Ismail of Perikatan Nasional.
The Johor PKR chief said a group of villagers met her during Ramadan after they were served notices to vacate land identified as a road reserve.
She said she visited the site before raising the matter at a district development action committee meeting and called for engagement with the affected residents.
“Unfortunately, the people were left anxious until I had to raise the matter at the district development action committee meeting,” she said.
The Kemeleh seat was won by BN’s N Saraswati in 2022 with a majority of 1,611 votes.
