KLUANG: Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi says a “blue wave” is sweeping through the state, just three days before Johoreans go to the polls.
Speaking at an event in Kampung Perak, Simpang Renggam, Onn Hafiz said he felt confident about the polls, based on the encouraging reception the coalition received throughout the campaign period.
“Based on my observation, I see a ‘blue wave’ (sweeping through the state). God willing, we will win,” said Onn Hafiz, who is defending the Machap state assembly seat in the Johor state election this Saturday.
BN is contesting all 56 state seats. In the last Johor election, BN won 40 seats.
Pakatan Harapan, BN’s main competitor, are also contesting in all constituencies, while Perikatan Nasional is contesting in 33 constituencies, Parti Bersama Malaysia (15), Muda (four), Parti Sosialis Malaysia (one) and Parti Orang Asli (one).
Onn Hafiz went on to say that he was aiming to retain his Machap seat with a larger majority. In 2022, he won the seat, a BN stronghold, with a 6,543-vote majority.
“We are targeting to win with a majority of 8,000 votes,” he said, and urged BN members not to be complacent.
The Johor Umno chief said he also wants at least 60% of BN supporters in Machap to vote by noon this Saturday.
