JOHOR BAHRU: A Pakatan Harapan candidate claims that students from a technical and vocational education and training college in Johor were made to attend a political event featuring Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
DAP’s Perling candidate Tee Boon Tsong said he received a complaint that the students were required by their college to attend an event at the Inland Revenue Board’s Kluang office on July 4.
“Attendance was made compulsory by the college. The students did not know what the event was about. When they arrived, they were allegedly asked to change into blue shirts for the arrival of Onn Hafiz and were made to shout campaign slogans,” he said.
Tee was speaking at a press conference joined by other DAP candidates – J Kartiyaini (Skudai), Andrew Chen (Stulang), Lee Wern Ying (Johor Jaya) and Nor Zulaila Abd Ghani (Tiram).
When contacted, an aide to Onn Hafiz dismissed the allegation as slander but did not comment further.
Tee questioned the alleged use of a government agency’s premises for the election campaign, saying those premises were not BN assets.
He said no police report had been filed yet as he wanted to direct his questions to Onn Hafiz and LHDN first.
