PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a male teacher suspected of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old schoolboy at a hotel in Kuala Terengganu on June 4.

Kuala Terengganu police chief Azli Noor said the suspect, in his 30s, was arrested on Sunday night.

He said the schoolboy accused the suspect, who had taught him in primary school, of assaulting him at 8am on June 4.

“The victim only lodged his report at 9.38am yesterday. Following that, police arrested the suspect at his home,” Bernama reported him as saying today.

Azli said the suspect had been remanded until June 21 for an investigation under Sections 14(a), 14(d) and 15(b) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for sexual assault, both physical and non-physical.

He said police were completing the investigation paper to be sent to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.

Azli also said the district police had opened four investigation papers involving sexual offences against children from June 1 to 14.
