PETALING JAYA: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook has slammed a planned motorcycle convoy organised by several Kelantan assemblymen that will pass through Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Bharu, calling the action irresponsible.
Loke said airport areas are strategic zones where safety must always be maintained to ensure smooth and uninterrupted passenger travel.
“If any congestion were to occur causing passengers to miss their flights, would the organisers take responsibility and compensate them for their airfare?” he said in a Facebook post today.
He also questioned whether the organisers had obtained the necessary approvals for the convoy.
“Any motorcycle convoy should also obtain approval from the relevant authorities,” he said.

As such, Loke said he has instructed the road transport department (JPJ) to work with traffic police to conduct roadblocks this afternoon and inspect all motorcycles entering the airport area without exception, including those of elected representatives participating in the convoy.
Based on a poster shared by Loke, the convoy is scheduled to take place from 5pm onwards and is organised by several state assemblymen from PAS and Kelantan PAS Youth.
It is expected to depart from Kota Lama, pass through the airport and city centre, before ending near the Kota Bharu Aeon Mall.
