Bursa opens higher on industrial, utilities stocks support

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened higher on Friday, supported by buying in heavyweights led by industrial products and utilities counters, despite weaker overnight performance on Wall Street.

At 9.10am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was up 1.64 points at 1,723.34 from yesterday’s close of 1,721.70.

The benchmark index had earlier started the session 1.55 points higher at 1,723.25.

Market breadth was positive, with gainers outnumbering losers 234 to 179. A total of 338 counters were unchanged, 1,997 untraded and 49 suspended.

Turnover stood at 247.93 million units, valued at RM144.60 million.
