Govt allocates extra RM20mil to eradicate poverty in Kelantan

PASIR PUTEH: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said today the government has approved an additional RM20 million for poverty eradication programmes in Kelantan.

Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the Prime Minister’s Department’s implementation coordination unit in the state will coordinate the channelling of the allocation.

“Since last year, I have been going to the ground to listen to issues faced by district officers, such as drainage problems, because these matters affect the people. That is why we listen and take them seriously.

“Although hardcore poverty has been addressed, poverty remains widespread, including in Kelantan. Therefore, I will provide an additional special allocation of RM20 million in Kelantan for projects to assist the poor,” he said.

He said this at a meet-and-greet session and visit to Masjid Gong Chapa here today, which was also attended by chief secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Kelantan menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud.

Earlier today, Anwar launched the upgraded Sultan Ismail Petra Airport terminal in Kota Bharu. Her was accompanied by Nassuruddin and transport minister Loke Siew Fook.
