KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed marginally lower against the US dollar on Friday amid heightened uncertainty over crude oil prices following disruptions to vessel traffic in the Middle East as well as the US’s latest move to impose tariffs on 60 countries, including Malaysia.
At 6pm, the local currency edged down to 4.0885/4.0935 versus the greenback from yesterday’s close of 4.0870/4.0910.
Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said Asian currencies traded mixed today amid uncertainties surrounding crude oil prices and the US tariff move, with the US dollar-ringgit pair trading within a narrow range of RM4.0890 to RM4.0977.
