PETALING JAYA: A senior citizen accused of murdering his former fiancée – whose dismembered body parts were found in a rubbish bin in Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah – has been declared fit to stand trial.
A psychiatric report presented in the magistrates’ court in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, stated that Piluta Samad, 72, was not suffering from any mental illness, the Daily Express reported.
Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus fixed Aug 27 for further mention to allow the prosecution to obtain further instructions from the deputy public prosecutor.
Piluta is charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code with murdering Hamidah Husin @ Lisa, 44, at a house in Kampung Sri Kenangan, Jalan Sepanggar, on Feb 11.
In April, the court ordered Piluta to undergo 30 days of psychiatric observation at Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang following an application by the defence.
If convicted, he faces the death penalty, or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
