PETALING JAYA: Advertising banners bearing obscene wording in Kuala Terengganu, which went viral on social media yesterday, have been taken down.
Local government, housing and health committee chairman Wan Sukairi Wan Abdullah said the permit for the banners had been approved based on the materials submitted by the applicants, but the content was altered when the banners were displayed across the city.
He said the Kuala Terengganu City Council (MBKT) contacted the parties concerned and instructed them to remove the banners immediately.
“We received numerous complaints from the public regarding the banners containing inappropriate and immoral wording displayed in public places.
“MBKT took immediate action after receiving the complaints.
“Inspections at the locations confirmed that all the advertisements have been removed,” Bernama reported him as saying today.
Wan Sukairi said all permit approvals were subject to the terms and conditions stipulated by the local authorities.
He said action would be taken against any party found to have breached the permit conditions, in accordance with the law.
