PETALING JAYA: A teenager who claimed she was nearly kidnapped in Semenyih, Selangor, yesterday is being investigated for lodging a false police report.
Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said police received a report from a 16-year-old student yesterday evening claiming she was almost abducted in a lane along Jalan Taman Pelangi.
However, Naazron said CCTV footage revealed that the incident did not occur as described in the police report.
He said the teenager lodged the report because she feared being scolded by her family after missing her transport home after school ended.
He said a police report has been lodged against the complainant for providing false information.
The case is being investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to a public servant, an offence punishable by up to six months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
“Police take such reports seriously as they can cause unnecessary public alarm,” he said.
