IPOH: Police arrested a woman and her two adult children after an elderly woman reported being cheated of RM8,000 in jewellery through a bogus welfare aid package at a hospital in Teluk Intan.
Perak police chief Alwi Zainal Abidin said the trio, aged 22 to 50, were arrested in an apartment in Semenyih, Selangor, on July 3.
“The 67-year-old victim was at the hospital for a check-up on June 29 when a woman introduced herself as a welfare officer and offered RM2,000 a month in community welfare aid.
“The victim then handed over a gold necklace, a pair of gold earrings with a short chain, and three gold rings before realising she had been duped when the suspect failed to return,” Alwi said in a statement today.
Police recovered the jewellery, which had been sold to a pawnshop in Teluk Intan. The suspects were held in remand for investigation.
