PETALING JAYA: Five Taiping prison wardens were charged in two separate magistrates’ courts in Perak this morning with injuring three detainees in 2025.

Hairie Jumri, 40, Saiful Azman Ibrahim, 44, Ahmad Rizal Razali, 37, Mustakhim Abdul Rahim and Nor Hafiz Izwan Muhammad Jajam, 31, claimed trial to the charges.

Hairie and Saiful Azman were jointly charged with voluntarily hurting a 25-year-old detainee with a baton, Harian Metro reported.

Mustakhim and Nor Hafiz were jointly charged with voluntarily causing hurt to a 30-year old detainee.

Ahmad Rizal was charged with intentionally causing hurt to a 32-year-old inmate.

The five were charged with committing the offence on Jan 17 last year.

Hairie and Saiful were granted bail of RM4,000 each with two sureties and ordered to report to the nearest police station monthly until the case is disposed of.

Rizal was allowed bail of RM3,000 with two sureties.

Magistrate R. Prabakaran fixed Sept 7 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Farihah Adilah Fazial appeared for the prosecution, while Aqmarul Aqil Ismail represented the trio.

In a separate court room, magistrate Ahmad Hamdi Mustafar set bail at RM2,000 each with one surety for Mustakhim and Nor Hafiz.

Hamdi also fixed Sept 8 for mention.

Mustakhim was represented by Amirul Fairuzzeen Jamaluddin, while Nor Hafiz was represented by Aqmarul Aqil.
