PETALING JAYA: Four parliamentarians and an academic were appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) independent oversight bodies for the 2026-2029 term today.
In a statement, MACC said the new appointments comprised members of the special committee on corruption (JKMR) and the anti-corruption advisory board (LPPR), two of the five independent oversight bodies established under the MACC Act to ensure MACC’s effectiveness, transparency and accountability.
Kuala Pilah MP Adnan Abu Hassan was named chairman of the JKMR while Batang Lupar MP Shafizan Kepli was reappointed for a second term as a JKMR committee member. Shafizan was also named deputy chairman.
Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman was reappointed for a second term while Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan joined the committee as a new member.
Enforcement, Leadership and Management University vice-chancellor Kassim Noor Mohamed will serve as the deputy LPPR chairman.
The JKMR advises the prime minister on corruption-related issues, reviews the MACC’s annual reports, and examines the LPPR’s assessment of the commission’s performance under the Act.
The LPPR advises the MACC on anti-corruption policies and strategies, reviews and endorses proposals aimed at improving the commission’s efficiency, assesses its resource requirements and examines its annual report before it is submitted to the JKMR.
The appointments were made on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s advice in accordance with Sections 13 and 14 of the MACC Act.
Anwar presented the instruments of appointment at Parliament, with the ceremony witnessed by MACC chief commissioner Abdul Halim Aman.
