PETALING JAYA: The Terengganu government will retain its sole Bersatu representative in the state executive council despite PAS ending its political cooperation with the party.
Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said there would be no reshuffle of the exco, which includes Bersatu’s Razali Idris.
“Everything remains the same,” he was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia.
Samsuri, who is also the Perikatan Nasional chairman, was addressing questions about the status of the Terengganu Bersatu chief and state tourism, culture, environment and climate change committee chairman, following PAS’s decision to sever ties with Bersatu.
Razali welcomed Samsuri’s statement and pledged to continue supporting and cooperating with the PAS-led Terengganu government.
“I welcome the menteri besar’s statement and support the state government and will continue to cooperate as long as needed to ensure stability for the people of Terengganu,” he said.
On Monday, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang announced that the party had decided to end its political cooperation with Bersatu following a special meeting of the PAS central working committee.
Razali was elected as the Kijal assemblyman in the 2023 Terengganu state election after defeating former menteri besar Ahmad Said.
He was subsequently appointed to the state exco, becoming the first Bersatu representative to hold the post.
Bersatu won five seats in the 2023 state election – Hulu Besut, Permaisuri, Seberang Takir, Telemong and Kijal.
