PETALING JAYA: An anti-graft watchdog has urged the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate how a four-storey block of flats occupied by foreigners in Sungai Tekali, Hulu Langat, was allowed to be built and remain operational despite allegedly lacking the necessary approvals.

The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) yesterday said that due process was not followed in the construction of the flats, part of which was built on government reserve land.

Malaysian Corruption Watch (MCW) president Jais Abdul Karim today asked why the relevant authorities failed to act if the flats were indeed constructed without approved building plans, planning permission, or valid safety certifications.

According to Harian Metro, Jais said that although the building was reportedly raided in February 2025 and dozens of foreign nationals were detained by the immigration department, he was disappointed that the issue remained unresolved.

“MCW wants MACC to investigate whether there were elements of corruption, illegal protection, or negligence that allowed the building to continue operating.

“MCW also calls for the actual status of the building to be disclosed to the public to prevent speculation and the inflammation of racial sentiments,” he said.

He also called on the police, fire and rescue department, immigration department, MPKj, and the Hulu Langat district office to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the matter, as well as an audit of previous enforcement actions.

Jais said the law must be upheld by everyone regardless of nationality, and that any failure by the authorities to act decisively would only undermine public confidence in the nation’s enforcement agencies and public institutions.

Videos of the dilapidated flats, which have been fitted with water pipes and electrical wiring, recently went viral on social media.

Dusun Tua assemblyman Johan Abd Aziz yesterday claimed that the landowner had allowed members of the Rohingya community to build and live in the flats.
