PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s teenage women’s doubles pair Low Zi Yu-Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan continued to make their mark on the international badminton scene by stunning Taiwan’s top pair Hsieh Pei Shan-Hung En Tzu in their opener at the Australia Open.

The world No 84 pair took 70 minutes to overcome their eighth-ranked opponents 21-19, 13-21, 21-19 in the World Tour Super 500 championships at the Quaycentre Arena in Sydney today.

Zi Yu, 16, and Noraqilah, 19, who recently staged upsets against top pairs from China and Japan, kept their cool against the second seeds of the tournament despite trailing often in the deciding set.

In the last 16, they will meet either Jazmine Lam-Lim Yee Yuan or Sai Tanvi Mushini-Ava Ong, both from Australia.

Zi Yu-Noraqilah qualified for a World Tour final for the first time in their career at the China Masters last month but were defeated by a Japanese pair.
