PETALING JAYA: Police have recorded 41 cases of fraud involving total losses of RM95,974 from the sale of non-existent tickets for the BTS concert at TM National Stadium on Dec 12 and 13.
Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department director Rusdi Isa said monitoring found that syndicates and individual scammers on social media were offering supposed special access to tickets for the VIP, Soundcheck and Priority Access categories.
“The identified modus operandi includes offers of pre-sale tickets, with syndicates directing victims to pay via bank transfer, DuitNow or QR codes to ‘lock’ ticket orders, and using fake screenshots as proof,” Kosmo reported him as saying today.
Rusdi said police were concerned about the rising number of scams related to the upcoming concert and expect them to increase once official tickets are sold out.
He advised the public to buy tickets only via official channels and sales agents verified by the organisers.
“Do not fall for claims of special access, ticket quotas or pre-sale tickets. Check the validity of the bank account and telephone numbers via the Semak Mule portal before making any transactions,” he said.
Rusdi said the public can also contact the National Scam Response Centre at 997 if they suspect they have fallen victim to a scam.
