PETALING JAYA: The teenager linked to the crash that killed five people and injured eight in Kluang, Johor, has been remanded for four more days to assist in the murder investigation.

Kluang sessions court judge Mujib Saroji granted the police their application to remand the suspect, a student at a Singapore university, until Monday following the end of an earlier three-day remand.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder after initially being probed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless and dangerous driving.

However, Kluang police chief Bahrin Noh said the probe under the Road Transport Act is also ongoing, Berita Harian reported.

The teenager, who was driving a Mercedes-Benz E240, was believed to have been racing against his brother, Goh Yi Sheng, 22, who was driving a BMW, before the crash at 1.19pm on Jalan Renggam-Simpang Renggam.

Goh lost control of his BMW, veered into the opposite lane, and collided with a Perodua Alza, Toyota Vios, Proton Wira, and his brother’s Mercedes-Benz.

The four occupants of the Vios – Aiman Rashid, 36, Nur Airish Syifa Sidek, 10, Nor Azlina Abd Latif, 33, and Semek Mat Soh, 73 – died at the scene. Goh died from severe chest injuries while being transported to hospital.

Eight other people involved in the crash were sent to Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang for treatment.
