PETALING JAYA: Women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M Thinaah defeated their Taiwanese opponents to book a quarter-final slot at the Indonesia Open today.
The world No 2 pair beat Hsu Ya Ching-Sung Yu Hsuan, who are 13 rungs below, with a score of 21-18, 21-19 in 30 minutes at the Istora Senayan, in Jakarta.
Pearly-Thinaah trailed for the most part in the second game before overcoming their rivals.
Their struggle to return to their top form after a two-month layoff due to Pearly’s injury was obvious as they were seen making numerous unforced errors.
Pearly-Thinaah have now met the Taiwanese pair twice and have won both times.
In the quarter-finals tomorrow, they will take on the winners of the match between compatriots Carmen Ting-Ong Xin Yee and Japan’s Rui Hirokami-Sayaka Hobara.
