PETALING JAYA: Malaysians will celebrate Hari Raya Aidiladha on Wednesday (May 27), the Conference of Rulers announced tonight.
In a broadcast over RTM, its acting assistant secretary, Affendi Jalaludin, said the conference had declared that 1 Zulhijjah 1447H will fall tomorrow.
Muslims in Indonesia and Singapore will also celebrate Aidiladha on May 27.
Aidiladha, also known as Hari Raya Haji in Malaysia, is celebrated through prayer, charity, and the ritual sacrifice of livestock.
In Jakarta, Indonesia’s religious affairs minister said the decision to celebrate Aidiladha on May 27 was made based on moon-sighting observations as the crescent moon had met the criteria established by the religious ministers of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
In Singapore, the republic’s mufti according to astronomical calculations showed that the crescent moon remained above the horizon after sunset on Sunday evening.
