PETALING JAYA: PKR has terminated Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad’s membership following their move to vacate their parliamentary seats and leave the party today.

PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said the party had audio recordings of speeches by both MPs, in which they declared their intention to vacate their parliamentary seats and exit PKR.

“PKR accepts their declaration, and under Clause 9(1)(c) of the party’s constitution, their membership is deemed terminated the moment they declared they were leaving the party.

“The declaration clearly complies with Article 49A(1)(a)(ii) of the Federal Constitution, which provides that a parliamentary seat shall become vacant if an MP ceases to be a member of the party under which they were elected,” she said in a statement this evening.

Fuziah said she would forward their cases to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul, who would determine their parliamentary status under the Federal Constitution.

Fuziah also said PKR will review the membership status of other PKR MPs who were present at today’s announcement.
