PETALING JAYA: Police have successfully crippled a cable theft syndicate following the arrest of six men in a series of operations around the Klang Valley from May 4 until yesterday.

Shah Alam police chief Ramsay Embol said the operation was carried out by the Shah Alam police headquarters’ criminal investigation division after news of the theft of Telekom Malaysia cables in Section 2 went viral online, Bernama reported.

“All the suspects, aged between 26 and 40, were arrested during the six-day operation from May 4-9. Checks revealed they all had criminal records, with between seven and 31 previous cases related to crime and drugs.

“Urine screening tests conducted during the arrests also found that four members of the group tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he was quoted as saying.

Embol said police also seized a Nissan Navara and various tools used by the suspects to cut cables, in addition to three rolls of cable belonging to the telecommunications company.

He urged anyone with information related to the case to contact Shah Alam criminal investigating officer Amirul Zulkifli at 012-5583436 to assist investigations.
