
PETALING JAYA: A babysitter has been sentenced to a year in jail and a RM15,000 fine after being convicted of negligence leading to the death of 15-month-old Nour Rania Asyifaa Yuseri, also known as Baby Syifaa.
Seremban sessions court judge N Kanageswari ordered Khairunnisa Ahmad Damamhuri, 41, to begin serving her sentence today, Harian Metro reported.
Khairunnisa faces a further four months in jail if she fails to pay the fine.
She was also ordered to perform 48 hours of community service after completing her sentence and commit to a RM5,000 good behaviour bond.
Khairunnisa was charged with neglecting the baby girl in a manner likely to cause her physical harm at a childcare centre in Bandar Sri Sendayan on Feb 22, 2022.
The charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act is punishable by up to 20 years in prison, a maximum RM50,000 fine or both, upon conviction.
Khairunnisa was represented by lawyer S Kavitha while Negeri Sembilan prosecution director Ku Hayati Ku Haron prosecuted.
