PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional (PN) will hold a Supreme Council meeting on March 14 amid disagreements over the post of opposition leader and claims of a new political party allegedly linked to Hamzah Zainudin.

PN deputy secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the meeting is scheduled to begin at 11am.

“Notices have been issued to all Supreme Council members,” he told a press conference in Parliament.

The meeting comes amid continued debate among PN leaders and grassroots members over Hamzah’s position as opposition leader.

Hamzah was expelled from Bersatu on Feb 13, at the height of a leadership rift with its president, Muhyiddin Yassin.

Yesterday, FMT reported that Bersatu information chief Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz had urged Hamzah to step down following claims that PN’s Supreme Council had agreed that the post should be vacated.

Bersatu chief whip Ronald Kiandee however said that 13 Bersatu MPs had reached a “collective and majority” decision to endorse the Larut MP in the post, in line with the parliamentary standing orders.

Khairi Jaya, founder of Parti Keluarga Malaysia, was earlier reported as saying that Hamzah was “90% confirmed” to take over the party.
