JELI: The Public Works Department (JKR) estimates that the construction of a temporary road in Kampung Lata Janggut Seberang here will involve a cost of RM60,000.

Jeli district officer Mohd Shaifudeen Mohd Salleh said costs include site clearance, earthworks, road construction and drainage diversion work to mitigate the risk of landslides.

“At this stage, we are conducting a comprehensive study of several options to build an alternative route, especially one that we have identified adjacent to the landslide site.

“I assure you that at the latest, construction work on this alternative route can begin next week,” he told Bernama TV today.

On Friday, heavy rain resulted in a road collapse incident in Kampung Lata Janggut Seberang, causing some 210 victims from 43 families in the village to be cut off.

Mohd Shaifudeen said that funds for the alternative road would be requested from the Southern Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) and the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM).

Meanwhile, when asked about the latest developments at the landslide site, Mohd Shaifudeen said slope stabilisation work must be done as a long-term preventive measure to avoid similar incidents from recurring.

Before this, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said JKR was assisting in preparing estimated costs for the construction of a temporary road next to the collapsed road to prevent the villagers from being cut off. – Bernama
